Can I Really Burn Fat and Gain Muscle?

I am often asked "What is the best way to burn fat and tone muscle?" I wish I could give an easy answer. But to get the results an individual desires requires attention to many aspects simultaneously.

It is common knowledge that aerobics burn fat. It takes a minimum of 15-30 minutes of steady aerobic exercise (walking, running, biking, etc.) to deplete blood sugar levels and begin burning fat for fuel. Aerobic exercise should be performed 3-6x per week. Preferably after resistance training to maximize fat loss. Intensity and duration can also be varied to burn more calories and more body fat.

Resistance training is crucial to tone and develop muscle tissue. Muscle burns calories at rest and will keep the skin tight as an individual loses body fat. It is important to resistance train each muscle 1-2x per week for maximum benefit.

Diet is another aspect that is important to sustaining muscle tone and reducing body fat. An effective diet doesn't entail eliminating all of your favorit foods. It merely requires you to eat adequate amounts of healthy, lean protein, carbohydrates, and fats. Eliminating enough extra calories to allow the occasional bad meal or bad day.

The final, but in my opinion, the most crucial aspects are willpower, determination, and consistency. The science of diet and exercise is easy to learn. It is the willpower, determination, and consistency to pursue and achieve your goals. Sticking to your plan and to a healthy lifestyle is hard to do. But, as with anything truely rewarding, it's worth it.
