Many people are confused when it comes to Carbohydrates. They either think they have to give them up all together, try to eat small amounts or just don't really care and eat everything in site. Although it does help to reduce carbohydrate intake in order to shed fat, it may not be wise to cut them out completely.
Some, but not all, carbohydrates are indeed bad, and need to be eliminated altogether. Other carbohydrates are ok to consume in combination with certain foods. Some carbohydrates are highly recommended and can be eaten anytime. carbohydrates can actually accelerate lean muscle mass gain without adding much, if any, body fat when eaten properly.
Refined Carbohydrates are carbohydrates such as pastries, bread, cookies, junk foods, snacks, chips, pasta, white bread, flour products, sugary products, and deserts. Many processed foods or refined carbohydrate should be avoided because it causes high insulin spikes in the body. This spike in excess insulin can lead to unwanted weight gain in the form of fat. These refined carbs should be eliminated from diets altogether.
Fibrous Carbohydrates are carbs derived from vegetables such as bell peppers, green beans, broccoli, salad greens, spinach, onions, cabbage, and mushrooms. Fibrous carbs actually counteracts or hinders the insulin spikes when eaten with starchy foods.
Starchy carbohydrates also cause a release of insulin, but may be eaten with other foods to soften the spike in insulin. Some examples of these carbohydrates are beans, corn, potatoes, and rice.
So as you can see, there are different carbohydrates out there. And they are here to help us grow stronger with more energy. Try to stay away from highly processed foods and sugary products, and you should be fine. Keep your carbohydrate intake to the Good Carbs, and you will reap the benefits from the start.
