Making Steady Progress

Topic: Making Steady Progress

The key to making steady progress with your exercise program is to be aware of the aspects that affect your mind and body, and adjust them accordingly. There are many factors that come into play and should be considered. Some of them are the following:

Nutrition – Your diet should provide enough protein to repair and sustain your body, and enough carbohydrates and fat to meet your energy needs, but not cause body fat storage. This may encourage the use of supplements such as vitamins and minerals and protein powders to make up for nutrient deficiencies. When in doubt, increase your protein and decrease your carbohydrates and fat, and don’t skip meals.

Exercise Selection – Regardless of the areas that you want to improve, it is important to vary your exercise selection and repetition schemes, and even the exercise order. If you train the same you will look the same.

Stay Motivated - Rather than go through the motions during your workout, although better than doing nothing, take a moment and step back and ask yourself what you can do differently that will spark enthusiasm and increase your desire to workout. It may be specializing on a problem area, having a break from work, or doing just weights or just cardio for a day. There is always a way to generate more interest and salvage the day’s workout and make it fun and productive. Believe me, I’ve trained steadily for over 25 years. It can be done. It just takes patience and determination.
