Father and Son make 2005 a Special year.

For Mike Rapp and his family, 2005 will always be remembered as a special year. Mike and his son, Jason recently competed in three bodybuilding competitions; the Mid-Atlantic States Grand Prix in Wheeling W. Va., the Big Dust Classic held at the University of Cincinnati, and the Monster Mash held at Mason Middle School. The time spent training, competing and eating pizza together after the shows was very special and rewarding.

This story begins in the summer of 2004 when Jason, competing for the first time at the age of 26, just finished his second of five competitions in one year. He tells me that we should do a body building competition together in 2005. At the time I don’t commit, but I begin to train my legs regularly and try to add some width and thickness to my back. I didn’t commit 100% to my wife Sharon, Jason and the rest of my family until after the first of the year. After looking at the shows scheduled for 2005 my son and I planned to focus on the Monster Mash in October, while doing one or two shows beforehand to help us get ready.

This brings me to my involvement with Beverly International in Northern Kentucky. I was introduced to Roger and Sandy in 1997 by Tony DeFresne, a bodybuilder who I consulted when I decided to compete for the first time. I had spent 20 years competing in power lifting and bench press meets and now, I had the bug to try bodybuilding. Roger and Sandy provided me with diets, recommended which supplements I should take and spent a great deal of time helping me with my posing. I had no ideal how much time and practice this required. During this time I was introduced to two other bodybuilders who were also training for the upcoming Northern Kentucky bodybuilding championships. I learned a great deal about bodybuilding from these two gentleman and we had a great time training together. Our hard work, combined with Roger’s advise and Beverly International Supplements resulted in a 1,2,3 sweep in the Masters class (I took 2nd) and also helped me place 5th in the bantam weight class.

Three years later, at the age of 45, I decided to compete again at the Northern Kentucky Championships. I called Beverly to see if they would help me with my diets and supplements. At that time I was introduced to Jeremiah Foster, a tremendous bodybuilder and personal trainer, who also works for Beverly International. Jeremiah met with me twice a month to discuss my diets and work on my posing. In the end I took 2nd in the Masters class and 1st in the bantamweight class. I went form 160 pounds to 173 pounds and back down to 143 pounds on the day of the show. What was amazing was that as I was gaining weight my fat percentage was going down, plus I was eating five or six meals a day. Here I am in the second show of my life, on stage competing for the overall title. Even though I knew I did not have a shot at the overall title, it was still awesome to be up there with the other class winners.

After that show I thanked Jeremiah for all of his help in preparing me for this show. Jeremiah was always willing to answer my dietary questions, recommend training programs, recommend the cardio that I needed to do, help me with my posing and recommend the supplements that I should take depending on how far out I was from the show. My base Beverly International supplements consisted of Mass Aminos, Ultra 40’s, Ultra Size, Muscle Provider Proteins, and Lean Out. I also used EXPEL by MHP to help rid myself of excess water, and Lipo 6 by Nutrex to aid in fat burning. My son,Jason, also introduced me to a newer product called Yohimburn DF. I applied this topical lotion to my mid-section and thighs. It really tightened me up!

That brings me to this past April when I called Beverly International to see if Jeremiah was available to help me prepare for my upcoming bodybuilding competitions. Fortunately for me, he was willing to assist me like he had done four years earlier. I gave him my contest timelines and he outlined a supplement plan and diet to have me ready for the first show in late September. At this same time, Jason began meeting with Mark Ritter, also a Beverly International employee, for his diet and supplement program.

My goal was to come in at around 150 pounds at 5.0% body fat. Thanks to Jeremiah’s help and Jason’s motivation and support, I weighed in at 150 for all three shows at a body fat of 4.9%. At 49 years old I was in the best shape of my life and feeling very confident going into my competitions. I feel the following results speak for themselves:

Mid-Atlantic Grand Prix in Wheeling W. Virginia;

1st place in the lightweight class and 3rd in the Masters class (40-49).

Big Dust Classic;

1st place in the Lightweight class and 3rd in the Masters class (40-49).

Monster Mash at Mason Middle School;

3rd place in the Lightweight class and 2nd in the Masters class (40-49)

Jason took 4th place in the open Middleweight class at the Big Dust. He was in the best shape of his life at the Monster Mash and his routine that night stole the show. My daughters Crissy and Michelle, both college students, were able to come home for the Monster Mash, making it a weekend to remember for our family.

In closing, I want to express my sincere thanks to my wife Sharon, for supporting me throughout this long stretch; to my son Jason for motivating me and helping me with my training and posing; Jeremiah Foster for his tremendous advise regarding my contest diets, supplements, and posing; and to bodybuilder and personal trainer Larry Schweer for sharing his training methods with Jason and I. I also want to sincerely thank everyone at Beverly International for all of their time and support. When the time comes to compete again I can guarantee that I will be calling Beverly International for their help again.

If anyone would like to contact me regarding my training, the diets or supplements used to prepare for these shows, you may contact me in the Loveland High School athletic Department at the following e-mail address: rappmi@loveland.k12.oh.us I would be more than happy to answer your questions. Good Luck!!
