Supplement Rotation and Cycling

Supplement cycling can dramatically improve a couple of things. One is the strength of the supplement. Your body may become a little descensitized from the constant use of a supplement such as creatine or caffeine. Taking time off can allow your body to rest and recover, so when you pick it up again, you can get the best bang for your buck. Another reason to cycle your supplements is the cost of said supps. If you are taking a diet pill for an extended period of time, then you will probably “feel” it less. Taking time off will save you money on supplements your body has grown accustomed to. So you wont waste your money, by taking a little break from your supplements.

By cycling the supplements in different rotations, you can get a better idea of which ones are actually working. When you stack several at once, it may be difficult to find out which one is doing what. Not to mention the cost of them all. You can save some dough and find out which ones are working with your individual body type. You change your training routine every few weeks or so, don’t you? This is because your body will adapt to the same training style over and over. Hence the need to “shock” the body and stimulate new muscle fibers. The same can be said for just about anything from alcohol and coffee to diet pills and anabolic prohormones such as test boosters.

Not all supplements must be dropped for a period of time. You actually need a few in your system all year-round. Everyone should be taking a multivitamin/mineral supplement. With today’s hectic lifestyles we hardly find the time to eat correctly let alone enough. This is where a good multi vitamin can help. These multis such as Juice Plus and Animal Pak can help fill in the gaps and deficiencies in your diet. Believe it or not, these little micronutrients can severely slow your growth and recovery from your training. Even your immune system can benefit from adequate vitamins and minerals.

Whey Protein is another supplement that can be taken every day. Whey Protein powder is quickly and easily digested. Whey protein is full of amino acids to be used by your body to build new muscle fibers into larger muscles. Ideally you can take up to 20 grams of protein prior to training and 20-40 grams immediately after training to help increase recovery and lean muscle mass from training. IDS has recently made protein supplementation much faster and easier with the introduction of Whey Liquid Protein Shooters. They are on sale now at Psupplements.com and are a quick and easy way to add protein to your diet.

Fatty acids such as fish oil are extremely important to one’s overall health. Fish oil contains omega-3 fatty acids and are used by the body for numerous health benefits. These potent healthy fats help in the reduction of pain and inflammation, help protect against disease and stroke, and encourage joint recovery. Fish Oil also helps enhance muscle growth and recovery as well as boosts brain function. Many diet pills and fat burners are including fish oil into their blend due to it’s help with fat burning and increased endurance.

Now on to a few supplements that you can do without for about 4 weeks at a time.

Creatine quickly became the supplement of choice for many an athlete after it was introduced into the mainstream market. The reason is that simply put, Creatine Works! Increased strength gains can happen rather quickly with the help of creatine supplements. It has been debated that one may not need to cycle off of creatine, but it may prove beneficial to take a small break and come back to it. Taking a month off every few months can help kick in the creatine receptors that may have been a little overworked. You should not lose much strength if you are still eating and training. Then when you return to the all mighty creatine, you will again get the results as your first month allowed.

BCAAs are amino acids valine, leucine, and isoleucine. These essential amino acids are excellent when taken prior to and during your workout session. Leucine has been known to help initiate protein synthesis. These can be taken for roughly 3 months at a time followed by a one month break. Leucemine is my BCAA drink of choice. Myotrend is the manufacturer and I have been taking leucemine for a while now. I feel stronger and I have more endurance during my training.

Arginine plays a role in the production of Nitric Oxide (NO) and Growth Hormone(GH) Growth Hormone is important for muscle strength and fat loss. NO is responsible for boosting the blood flow to the muscles being exercised. Like the other supplements, Arginine can help with fat loss as well as increased size and strength, but your body may become accustomed to it, and you may need to take a month or so off of NO. The layoff may help increase the effectiveness of Nitric Oxide when you start it up again.

Tribulus Terrestris increases the luteinizing hormone from the brain. LH enters the bloodstream and travels to the testicles where it boosts the production of testosterone. As many of you know, testosterone influences muscle growth as will as enhancing the firing of nerves that supply muscle fibers. Tribulus can be cycled because taking it for too long can eventually lead to suppressed testosterone production. A one month layoff can be taken every two months or so.

SO keep a little more jingle in your pocket and get the most out of your supplements at the same time!
