Warm Up Now to Avoid Injury Later.

Warming up the body before beginning strenuous exercise is important, but often overlooked and misunderstood process. There are many benefits to a pre-exercise warm-up. Those include cirulating the tendons, ligaments, and muscles with blood. Proper stretching also prepares the mind and body for the exercises to come. Another benefit is to be able to better assess what injuries or limitations may be present in the upcoming workout. Especially with the cold weather, it is important to warm- up to minimize the risk of injury.

A proper warm-up can entail various options. Some of those include a low-moderate intensity cardio vascular workout such as walking or running, light stretching or minimum poundage sets of resistance training exercises that will be used in your session. The goal should be to warm-up the body adequately but without impairing the remaining workout. As with all exercise, start slowly and trust your body's feedback.
